ATHLETICS

Today we practised relays, hurdles, and long jump in preparation for our school athletics day at the end of the term.  Next time we will be trying sprints, discus and shotput.

MATHS WITH THE COLLEGE TEACHERS

Today lots of College Teachers came to our school to learn how to test children's maths skills.  We were happy to help them and share all our numeracy knowledge.

Today Miss Norton did a cool science experiment with us.  We observed what happened when you put salt on ice.

$641 RAISED FOR THE S.P.C.A.

Today Helen from the Otago S.P.C.A. came to visit us.  Room 9 and Room 11 presented her with a cheque for $641!!!!  She was very impressed with all the money we raised from our Craft & Bake Sale.  The S.P.C.A. are going to put this money towards the new shelter they are building for the cats and dogs.


LEARNING WITH MISS NORTON

For the next three weeks, our College Teacher Miss Norton is teaching us. We will be learning about writing instructions, the Olympics, athletics and lots of other interesting things.  Yesterday, we learnt how to throw a discus.

Today we helped our little buddies in Room 5 to make daffodils.  It was lots of fun!

Milly is off to perform in the Uke Jam today.  She is a superstar at playing the ukulele.  Have fun Milly!


OLYMPIAN ANDY NICHOLSON VISITS OUR SCHOOL

On Wednesday speed skater and pro cyclist, Andy Nicholson visited our school.  He talked to us about the Olympic Games and his experience of cycling around the world.   Andy also encouraged us to follow our dreams and try our best.

FANTASTIC POSTERS

The Super Canine group have been working extra hard at reading time over the last few weeks to create amazing posters about Antarctica.  They will be on our classroom wall soon - come and read them!


NORTH ZONE CROSS COUNTRY

Congratulations to Meg, Issy, Tarrah and Alexis who represented our school in the North Zone Cross Country.  Alexis and Issy were super fast and they have qualified for the Otago Champs.  What a great effort!

FRACTURED FAIRYTALES

During writing, we have been learning about 'Fairytales'.  Over the last week we have been learning to retell traditional tales.  This week we are looking at 'Fractured Fairytales'.  This is when you change elements of the tale (such as the characters or the setting) but the storyline remains the same.  We wrote a fun story together using the following website.  Feel free to try it for yourself...

ICE SKATING NIGHT

On Friday 19th August, the PTA will be holding an Ice Skating Night at the Dunedin Ice Stadium.  This will run between 5-7pm.  The entry fee is $10 per person.

CROSS COUNTRY

It was a lovely sunny day today for the School Cross Country.  Mrs McCulley was very proud of all the children in Room 11 for trying so hard.  Many students in Room 11 placed in the top ten runners of their age group.  Congratulations to the following children:
