POPPY VISITS SCHOOL
Today Mrs McCulley's dog Poppy visited school. She is a 5 year old Miniature Schnauzer. Poppy loved hanging out with all of the children in Room 11. She especially enjoyed visiting the new library in Te Puna Ako.
POOR SAMARA!
Poor Samara broke her arm when she was playing on the flying fox. Check out the x-rays below. The first one shows Samara's arm just after it was broken and the second one shows it after it was realigned by the doctors. Today we made cards for Samara and we hope her arm feels better soon!

OUR LEARNING DETECTIVES
Each year, each class is given two 'Learning Detectives'. These children are responsible, senior students who help our class and keep us up-to-date with school events. This year we are lucky to have Ashleigh and Keziah as our Learning Detectives. They came to visit us and talked to us about new games that will be available in Te Puna Ako to play during wet lunchtimes.

INCREDIBLE HOOP GLIDERS - PART 2
We experimented with our 'Incredible Hoop Gliders' again today. We were inspired by Marley who made his own Hoop Glider at home using a large straw. This made the glider fly even better!
Mrs McCulley brought some large milkshake straws and we used these to make new gliders. We had lots of fun flying them outside.
We had a boys race and a girls race to see who's glider flew the furtherest.
Tarrah and Sam were our champions!
We compared our old gliders from last week (with the small straws) to our new gliders (with the big straws). The gliders with the big straws flew much better, just as Marley had told us.
Meg posed a very good question... "What would happen if we had three hoops on the glider?" We tested this out. The glider worked well and moved in a spiral direction.
Leo also posed a very good question... "What would happen if we only used two hoops?" We tested this out too and found that the glider did not fly well at all. It just went a short distance before it dropped to the ground.
Just for fun we flew our new and improved 'Incredible Hoop Gliders' off the deck. Watch them fly...
What a fantastic science session!

SCIENCE - The Incredible Hoop Glider
This week in Science we created a 'Incredible Hoop Glider' with a buddy. These flew really well and it was lots of fun. Next week we are going to experiment by making some changes - different sized straws and extra hoops. We will see if we can make the 'Incredible Hoop Glider' even more incredible!
